Glorieta
is a census-designated place in Santa Fe County, north-central New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the population was 859, but it's considered part of the Santa Fe metropolitan area. The community is situated in the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains along Interstate 25, on the east side of the Glorieta Pass. The town of Glorieta was settled during the Civil War, and in 1862 a decisive battle took place near La Glorieta Pass. In 1879, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad came over the La Glorieta Pass and the small village began to grow. Shortly after World War II, the Southern Baptist Assembly chose Glorieta as headquarters for their western leadership center. Today the town has a restaurant, a small mercantile store, a gift shop and a few homes. The region surrounding Glorieta is filled with natural beauty with lots of recreational opportunities in the area. Everything from hiking, golf, mountain biking to white water rafting and snow skiing. All of the artistry and culture of Santa Fe is just a short drive away. The city has over 300 art galleries and more than a dozen museums, showcasing art, culture and history. Included is the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, which is entirely devoted to the artist's work.

North Central New Mexico has a climate that is usually sunny and dry with relatively low humidity. Brilliant sunshine defines the region, averaging more than 300 days a year. At times there are periods of mid and high-level cloudiness. Extended cloudiness is rare. The region has four distinct seasons, but the heat and cold are mild compared to the extremes that occur more commonly in other parts of the country. Occasional snowfalls are possible but usually melts by mid-afternoon. Spring is unsettled, often windy and cool, but is the driest time of the year. Summer daytime highs range from the upper 80s to the upper 90's, and low 60s to low 70s overnight. North Central New Mexico's climate is classified as arid.
